Hello, I will be sharing with you all today simple and effective methods to block your ATM card in the case of an unforeseen emergency, especially during theft or suspected fraud. We now live in a digital and cashless era, the issue of theft and lost ATM card is rampart and alarming.

The aim of writing this is not to stop the theft and misplacement of ATM cards, but to help curb issues of the fraudsters accessing cash in our bank account leaving us stranded and broke.

And one interesting factor about this is, you don’t need to visit your bank before you can block your ATM card, cause during weekends bank are closed and most times these perpetrators wait till the dead of night before they start siphoning your funds.

How To Block Your ATM Card If Lost Or Stolen

Listed below are the proper channels provided by all commercial banks in Nigeria to help you block your ATM Card should if it ever get lost or stolen. Please ensure you note down important details about your card.

These details includes your ATM card number which is the 16 digit number at the front, the cvv number (4 digits) at the back and the card expiry date.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB)

This happens to be one of the easiest and there are three (3) ways you can block your ATM card with GTB.

FIRST STEP

If the mobile phone whose sim is associated with your bank account is in your possession, you simply dial *737*51*10#.

SECOND STEP

If you have a mobile phone whose sim is linked to your account number, simply do the following, launch your messaging app and type ‘HOTLIST, and input your account number 016346****’ and send it to ‘08076665555’.

THIRD STEP

Activate your mobile data and launch your GTB internet banking application, log in to the app, locate and select the card section, click on hotlist and proceed to insert your ATM card sixteen-digit PIN, click on submit and wait.

Zenith Bank

There are two (2) methods for blocking your ATM card with Zenith bank.

FIRST STEP

If you are in possession with the sim linked to your bank account, or if you can get access to any device at all, simply dial *966*911#, enter your ten (10) digit account number followed by your mobile number linked to the zenith account, press 1 to confirm your request and the ATM card will be blocked instantly.

SECOND STEP

Activate your mobile data connection and launch your zenith internet banking application, log in to the app, locate and select cards and cheques, click on deactivate the card and input your reason and click on continue.

Fidelity Bank

This is also quite easy and there are two (2) methods with which you can block your ATM card with Fidelity bank.

FIRST STEP

If you are in possession of the sim linked to your account, simply dial *770*911# and follow the command prompts.

SECOND STEP

You can also contact fidelity bank by mail; true.serve@fidelitybank.ng

Stanbic IBTC Bank

There are actually two (2) methods for blocking your Stanbic IBTC ATM card;

STEP ONE

Ensure you are in possession of the sim linked to your Stanbic IBTC account, then dial *909# select my bank and select service request then select block card.

STEP TWO

Alternatively you can send an SMS to your Stanbic IBTC Bank: Open your SMS application and type ‘BLOCK CARD NUBAN‘ and send it to ‘20123‘.

United Bank Of Africa (UBA)

This is pretty concise and there are two (2) methods you can use to block your lost/stolen UBA ATM card

FIRST STEP

Ensure you are in possession of the sim linked to your UBA account, then proceed to dialing *919*10# and follow the command prompts to successfully block your card.

SECOND STEP

Activate your mobile data connection, and launch the UBA internet banking application, log in, locate and select self-service, then make a request to block your card.

Wema Bank

This is self-explanatory and concise, and there are also two (2) methods to achieve this feat.

FIRST STEP

You can block/deactivate your stolen/lost wema Bank ATM card by making use of the wema mobile application and internet banking solution.

SECOND STEP

Your lost/stolen Wema bank ATM card can be blocked by simply placing a call to this number: 08039003700

Sterling Bank

There are also two (2) steps to block your ATM card with Sterling Bank.

FIRST STEP

You can contact them via mail on; customercare@sterling.ng

SECOND STEP

You can contact them via mobile on:(+234) 07008220000, (070078375464)

ECO Bank

To block your ATM with Eco Bank is actually easy and straight to the point, all you have to do is send an SMS in this format;
Open your SMS application and input ‘STOP ATM your account Number to 0806326226’

First City Monument Bank (FCMB)

FCMB does not require you sending SMS or dialing any USSD code before you can block your ATM. All you have to do is; Call them on +2342798800 also you can reach them via mail: customerservice@fcmb.com

Union Bank

To block your union bank ATM card in the case of theft or misplacement, simply open your SMS app and input;
BLOCK CARD NUBAN‘ and send it to ‘20123“.

Keystone Bank

To Block your ATM card in the case of theft or misplacement, this does not require any USSD code, simply contact KeyStone Bank via Mobile: 23470020003000 or Contact them via mail: contactcentre@keystonebankng.com

Access Bank

To block your ATM card with Access bank is less complex from the rest. Because it does not require dialing a USSD code, or sending SMS, all you have to do is;
In the case of theft or lost ATM card, simply put a call through to; +23412802500

Polaris Bank

Polaris Bank does not require any USSD code To block your Bank ATM card, in case of theft or misplacement, all you have to do is to Contact them via mobile: +2341270850

First Bank Of Nigeria

To block your ATM card in case of theft or misplacement, is a bit simple. Just do the following;
Open your SMS messaging application and type ‘BLOCK‘ and send to ‘30012

Unity Bank

To block your ATM card with Unity bank is an easy process too. In the case of theft or misplacement simply do the following;
Contact them via mobile: 07080666000
Contact them via mail: we_care@unitybankng.com

Your ATM debit card can be used for online transactions, and with only brief information from your ATM card, fraudsters can wipe your account clean, leaving you penniless.
