How To Check Your NIN Using USSD Code

NIN which is an abbreviated form of the National Identification Number is an 11 digit non-intelligible number. According to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), NIN is usually assigned to an individual upon completion of Enrollment into the National Identity DataBase. Let’s see how we can register for NIN and enroll into the National Identity DataBase.

How To Register For NIN

NIN registration is an easy process. It is “do it yourself whenever and wherever you are” process of enrolment. To start the enrolment process, the applicant visits the official website of NIMC (www.nimc.gov.ng) and pre-enrols online using the Pre-enrolment Portal (https://penrol.nimc.gov.ng/). The applicant fills in his/her data in block letters, then prints out a summary sheet that has a 2D Barcode.

Applicants should note that the Online Pre-Enrolment is an initial step in the enrolment process. The enrolment is only completed after the applicant gets his or her biometric data (fingerprints, headshot photograph and signature) captured and processed. This biometric data capture can only be done by an Enrolment Officer at any NIMC Enrolment Centre.

Downloading and Using the Enrolment Form

Applicants can also download the Enrolment form to print out and fill offline.  filling in the online pre-enrolment form and printing out a summary sheet with the 2D barcode.

Visit www.nimc.gov.ng To download the enrollment form online. Fill all forms in block letters and proceed to the nearest enrolment Centre for biometrics capturing in order to obtain the National Identification Number (NIN).

How To Check Your NIN Using USSD Code

NIN is only issued to those who have enrolled for the National ID Scheme. You can check your NIN by dailling *346# from the phone number associated with your Voter’s card, Drivers License, or BVN registration.

Make sure you have at least #20 on your phone line before you dial the USSD Code. Then you can either write it down or take a screenshot when your NIN is displayed. This is because your NIN won’t be displayed twice on your Phone screen.

This USSD Code is only available on MTN, Glo, and Airtel subscribers at the moment. It is yet to be made available to 9mobile subscribers.
